FOLKLORNÍ SDRUŽENÍ ČESKÉ REPUBLIKY

SDRUŽENÍ PŘÁTEL FOLKLORU

Velký Javorník (Great Javorník) [ Hora, kopec nebo vrch ]

Velký Javorník is the highest point the Veřovice Hills, which are situated in the area of Moravskoslezské Beskydy in the west part of the Carpathian Curve. It is 918 m above sea level.

From time immemorial Velký Javorník belonged to the estate of Šostýn. In the 15th century it passed from its owner, Olomouc archbishopric, under the Hukvaldy Castle administration. Currently it is owned by the Woods of the Czech Republic, forester’s district of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm.

On the peak of Javorník there is a tourist hut at the height of 905 m above sea level; the hut is one of the most visited places in Beskydy.
There are magnificent views of the Beskydy ridge, of Jeseníky, etc. from V. Javorník. At the northeast foot there is a holiday resort of Horečky, and nearby the internationally famous "Vlčina" Hotel with frescos by the national artist, Antonín Strnadel. Near the hotel there is an original shed and an old Wallachian pub called "U Bartošů".

In summer an ethnographic festival is held at Horečky. In the course of the shortest climb (along the green sign) we will go round a ski resort, where the well-known ski-jumps with artificial ground are situated.
